November 17, 2024 - Hooked on Health Fitness Center

Lots to be thankful for. We were thrilled that Auntie Em's Pizza and More was willing to host us for a meeting! We were also joined by guests Frank and Elain Alcorn. Elain joined us to talk about her Hooked on Health Fitness Center located next to Auntie Em’s. She has a variety of fitness programs and is a NASM certified personal trainer. Her mission is to give people the tools they need to achieve their goals. Elain will work with you on fitness, strength training, balance, and nutrition. Her incredible passion became evident during her presentation. She grew emotional when describing how happy she was everytime someone realized their potential. Elain truly has the best interest of her clients in her heart. Thank you Elain for the tour!

October 23, 2024 - Paul Harris Fellows

“I participate in the Paul Harris Society because I care. These contributions demonstrate our commitment to serve others.” ~Elaine Love, Paul Harris Society Coordinator
The Rotary Foundation recognizes those individuals who contribute, or have donated in their honor, $1,000 or more annually to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or approved Foundation grants by inducting them into the Paul Harris Society. At a recent meeting, we honored dedicated friends of our Rotary Foundation as distinguished members of the Paul Harris Society. Our most recent inductees are Carol Malone, Wil Antrim, James Trussell, and Jim McCormack. President Deb Myers presented them with this honor alongside Paul Harris Fellows Jeff Wolfe and Larry Doyon.
Because of donations to the Foundation:
🔸Children are vaccinated against polio and other diseases
🔸Adults and children alike can learn to read and write
🔸Women are given microloans and vocational training that enable them to support themselves and their families in a healthy and dignified way
🔸Teachers and schoolchildren have access to toilet facilities and clean drinking water
🔸Scholars are able to study ways to prevent maternal and child mortality.
🔸Professionals from around the world convene to discuss strategies for resolving conflict and fostering peace
Congratulations!

We had the opportunity to meet with our 2024/2025 District Governor at the Smethport Legion. Port Allegheny, Smethport, and Bradford were also there for this joint session. The DG, Zachary Covington, laid out his goals for this Rotary year and provided great examples of how we can help attain them.

September 4, 2024 - Paul Harris Fellows

Paul Harris once said, “Perhaps dreaming is not so bad if one dreams good dreams and makes them come true.” In Rotary, we make dreams a reality through extraordinary projects and activities here at home and around the world. These projects would not be possible without the generous support of Rotarians and friends of our Foundation. Our most recent inductees are Bill Keesler, Jeff Swanson, and Jeff Wolfe. President Deb Myers presented them with this honor.

August 7, 2024 - McKean County Queen Contestants

At our July 31 meeting, we were thrilled to host the McKean County Fair Queen contestants. These girls are so proud of their hometowns! The purpose of their visit was for each of them to present an aspect of the fair, tell us some history, and promote it. They are great public speakers and have bright futures ahead of them! We thanked them with our traditional gift of pickles! Good luck ladies!
Pictured here are the contestants and Rotary President Deb Myers.

July 15, 2024 - Changing of the Guard

The Rotary year runs from July 1 - June 30. At the Roadside Rest for a recent meeting, we honored the 2023-2024 President James Trussell with a presidential award. Bestowing that award upon him was our 2024-2025 President Deb Myers! We are so thankful for your leadership Jim while we look forward to watching Deb grow in this new role! In the words of Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick “May peace prevail on Earth.”

June 10, 2024 - Mt. Jewett Hunger Project

At a previous meeting, we heard from guest Dr. Linda Rettger on behalf of the Mt. Jewett Hunger Project. She runs the Hunger Project with a wonderful group of volunteers once each month. On average, the group helps feed around 12 families each time. They provide families with nutritious food options to help stock their kitchens. However, the project doesn’t stop there. When there are perishables left over, Dr. Rettger delivers them to the Mt. Jewett Senior Center! Our club is so thankful for your work in this community and the impact you have! Way to go and keep up the great work!

Charlie Hamilton recently joined us for a meeting on behalf of the Mt. Jewett/Hamlin Sports Boosters. He gave us an overview of how their organization works and what their mission is: to ensure all kids have the opportunity to play. We couldn’t be happier to support their great impact on this community! Thank you so much for stopping by Charlie, keep up the great work!
Please consider supporting the Mt. Jewett/Hamlin Sports Boosters. Your donation helps kids right here in town play ball!

May 15, 2024 - Fishin Kids Club

Our club was honored to stop by the Fishin' Kids Club in Hazel Hurst just prior to their amazing annual fishing derby. What a great group of volunteers providing incredible opportunities for the children in our area. They work so hard year round to raise and stock fish for the kids.
At the check presentation were Rotarian Bill Keesler, Rotary Club President James Trussell, and Fishin Kids Club representatives John Walker and Jack Walker.
Thank you for all you do!

May 8, 2024 - Rotary Litter Pick-Up

A few weeks ago, our club teamed up with Mt. Jewett Boy Scout Troop 410 for our annual litter pickup. The stretch of highway we maintain is a 2-mile stretch known as the Hazel Hurst Hill. Over the course of a few hours, we filled around 50 bags full of garbage. Thank you to the Boy Scouts for your help! And a huge thanks to both the Hamlin Township Vfd and Mt.Jewett Volunteer Fire Department for guarding the top and bottom of the hill to slow traffic down.
PLEASE don’t litter! And educate others you may be riding with to help keep Pennsylvania Beautiful!

May 3, 2024 - Library Match Exceeded!

Today, the Library announced that donors not only matched our $1,000 challenge, but exceeded it! From the Library: "The Mt. We deeply appreciate the support we received from the communities we serve! With the Rotary Club's donation and the matching support from generous contributors, we are able to grow our Endowment Fund by over $2,000."

April 16, 2024 - Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Mt. Jewett Rotary Club is proud to display these blue pinwheels in our downtown garden. They represent our ongoing support of the Children's Advocacy Center of McKean County and the prevention of child abuse this month, and every month. Rotarian Megan Inghram spearheads this effort to help bring awareness to any passing through town. But as with many Rotarians, that is not all she does. Megan is a Shared Hope International Ambassador. She gives presentations on Shared Hope’s three-pronged approach to end sex trafficking: Prevent, Restore, and Bring Justice. Thank you Megan for all your hard work in this club and out in the community!

March 16, 2024 - St. Matthew's Preschool

At our regular meeting this week, we invited Beth Carpenter to come speak about St. Matthew’s Lutheran Preschool, where she teaches. There, Beth lays the foundation for students to be successful in the rest of their education. We are so happy there is a preschool right here in town. Thank you Beth for your dedication to our local students. At the conclusion of the meeting, Rotary Club President James Trussell and Rotarian Larry Doyon presented Beth with a $1,000 check for the preschool and its operating expenses.
Money for donations like this one are funded through events like the Chocolate Indulgence and our funnel cake booths. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible. Thank you!

We would like to take some time to say THANK YOU! To everyone who provided baked goods, donated auction items, donated money, and donated time! And thank you to the Mt. Jewett Memorial Library, St. Matthew’s Preschool, and Boy Scout Troop 410 for volunteering at the event. We couldn’t do it without any of you! We even had a record crowd this year! By helping us, you are helping OUR community. And of course, thank you to the Mt. Jewett Veterans Memorial Club for hosting!!

 February 4, 2024 - Chocolate Preparation

Boy are we ever grateful! Thank you Leslie and Tom Davis for donating the chocolate and “The Ladies” for donating their talents! You helped us prepare so many treats for the Chocolate Indulgence. Without you, we would be a lot less sweet!
And of course, thank you to the Mt. Jewett Sportsmen’s Club for use of the facility.
We can’t wait to see you all on Saturday!

January 28, 2024 - Light Removal Project

Rotarians gathered this weekend to take down the Christmas lights throughout town. Seen here, Rotarian Jim McCormack takes to the skies to remove the lights from the poles. He was the best man for the job as he seems to be happiest when his feet leave the ground.
